How to Register

Portland Community College handles registration for group classes at Effortless Movement.

Step 1: New students will need to create an account. If you’ve taken a class at PCC before, you already have an account and can skip this step.

Community Ed classes – like Pilates – get posted a couple weeks before registration opens. Christine also posts the schedule and CRN – course registration number – on her website prior to the registration open date.

Step 2: On the PCC website, find your class in the class schedule. It’ll take you a few clicks — see the screenshots below. If there are seats available, click the “Register now” button. After registering, you’ll see a link to pay your bill online.

If you are age 62 or older, please use the PCC senior discount! You pay half price! The college handles your discount and you only need to apply once — it will carry over to future classes. If it’s your first time, don’t pay your bill until the discount goes through.

FAQs

How many people are in each class? The maximum number is 10. Both Christine and Kelly have more than 25 years of Classical Pilates teaching experience – we know all of the in’s and out’s of teaching groups this size!

Pricing Generally, Pilates classes are priced at 10 for $359. The senior discount is 50% for age 62+. If a series has fewer classes, the price is pro-rated down to match that.

Is every week a different workout? Nope. Some folks have compared Effortless Movement to attending a Dojo; we have a skills based curriculum to help you build a more functional body. We don’t do a generic “workout of the day” like other studios and gyms. Each week, there will be repetition from the previous week AND there will be new skills and exercises. Your body and brain learn better with repetition and that builds the strength to continually bump up your workouts throughout the season.

Can I take fewer than 10 classes? Each series is 8-10 weeks; we don’t sell other packages. The 10-week series is set up to progress you from week to week. Yes, you can miss a class or two – we’ll repeat the “new things.” Yes, you can make up missed classes on a space available basis. There are 10 slots available in every class – since there’s equipment involved, we can’t create extra spots past 10. We do not refund for classes that students have missed. *Some weekly series are 8 or 9 classes based on holidays and teacher schedules. All of the same logic applies.

Can I try out a class first or observe before registering? We don’t have extra studio space to allow observation and…nobody really wants to be watched while working out. Advice: register for class and be sure to attend the first meeting. If the studio isn’t your cup of tea, you can drop the class for a full refund within 6 calendar days of the first meeting.

Can I start in the middle of the term? It’s best to not begin Level 1 past week 2 or 3, as you’ll miss foundational concepts that carry throughout the term.

Do you offer private Pilates training? You do not need to do private classes prior to attending Level 1, but some people feel more comfortable being new in a private setting. If you’ve missed the start of the term, private training can get you up and running right away instead of waiting for the next term. Christine’s schedule is full. Kelly has some availability, Schedule with her here.

Where is the Effortless Movement studio? We’re located at 1730 SW Skyline Blvd
Ste 24, Portland, OR 97221. Not all online maps correctly locate us, so please plug this into your GPS. We’re in a large office building with no outside signage — if Starbucks & Chevron are right next door, you’re in the right place! Large, free parking lot. 👍 Pssst: you’ll need a key for the restrooms — we have plenty of keys inside the studio.
